Historical vs. Contemporary: Question 3

Compare and contrast one of Copenhagen's contemporary public parks with one of its historic ones

Copenhagen has an array of parks distributed throughout the city. The historic Botanic Gardens and the new Superkilen park are just two examples of what Copenhagen has to offer its citizens. Both parks are easily accessible and attract people from all walks of life. They are areas for people to laugh and enjoy themselves. Other than this, the similarities end. The Botanic Gardens in Copenhagen is lush and green. When someone walks into the park, he is transported outside of the city and can relax. The park houses many types of plants and various gardens. This allows for people to learn and to find a specific area that best suits them. There is plenty of room for people to read, play games, or have a picnic. Superkilen reminds me of my elementary playground, but cooler. The park blends in with the surrounding environment. The equipment in the park is designed for a specific purpose. The octopus structure pictured above is a jungle gym and is used as such, for example. The park cannot really be re-purposed for the users own desires, but rather they use it when they know what they activity they will perform. The contemporary parks are cool to look at and fun to play in, but do not give the relaxing feel most greenspaces provide. The aspects of the contemporary park can be found within the historical, but not the other way around. Why then are we creating more concrete playgrounds?
